The hour with no shadows worth having.

Where they live

Four rooms, four hours of the same day.

Every collection belongs somewhere in a house, at a particular hour, doing a particular job. Start with the room you were thinking of.

A dark bedroom at night, one small lamp lit beside the bed
23:40Bedside

The bedside — night

Light you can read by, and sleep beside.

The last thing switched off. It has to be dim enough not to wake the room and warm enough not to feel like a hospital.

Collection
Luna — seven hours of one night
Light
One lamp, low and warm
Height
Below eye level when lying down

A warm evening room, a lamp glowing on a shelf
19:10The shelf

The shelf — evening

A lamp that earns its place switched off.

On a shelf it is furniture for sixteen hours a day and a light for eight. It has to be worth looking at either way.

Collection
Elora — ten colours, no fuss
Light
Glow rather than task
Beside
Books, and whatever else is up there

A morning room, a lamp lit low in the corner against the wall
08:45The corner

The corner — morning

The corner a ceiling light never reaches.

Every room has one. A lamp there does more for how the room feels than anything overhead, because it puts light where the shadow was.

Collection
Lumina — ten myths, one arch
Light
One lamp, low, against the wall
Effect
The room reads larger than it is

21:00

Nobody buys a lamp for the middle of the day.

Everything here is made for the hours after the daylight stops doing the work — when what is lit is a decision rather than a given.

What is in the shop

More questions

How much light a room needs

  1. ~100 lmA candle, or a nightlight.
  2. ~400 lmOne lamp. A corner, a bedside, a shelf.Every piece here
  3. ~800 lmTwo lamps, or one and a window.
  4. ~1500 lmA room lit to work in.
  5. ~3000 lmA ceiling fixture. A different job.

Two small sources beat one large one at every hour after dark — which is why nothing here tries to light a whole room on its own.

A lamp shade drawn in cross-section, its wall measured

How they are made

The wall decides how much light gets out.

Resin cast at 2.4 millimetres, sanded by hand, checked against a wall before it is packed. Thinner and the bulb shows through; thicker and the lamp reads as switched off while it is on.
